20/20

Did anyone else watch the special on 20/20 tonight about the Last Days on Earth? Wow! Was that not enough to make you lose sleep tonight? Gee! Makes me wonder which way we are all gonna go. Global warming, a virus, supervolcano etc??? I figure as long as it doesn't happen in the next 40 to 50 years, I most likely won't be around. But I know people I love will still be here. So I guess we should all pull together and do our part to take care of our earth and each other and the rest is in God's hands. It really comes down to that. It all falls into bible prophecy anyway if you ask me. Well I can't let myself lay in bed tonight and have a anxiety attack thinking about all of the "what if's"! That is not casting my care upon the Lord. But I am guilty of doing that all the time... trying to rely on myself and worrying all day and night about "Stuff". The worrying gets old so I just think I will go and read something happy. Or put in a good movie.

Gold medal friendships

Today I called to talk to one of my best girlfriends from Minnesota. We don't seem to talk as often as we would like but when we do it's like we never missed a beat. Do you have friends like that? I call them gold medal friendships. The ones that last a lifetime through thick and thin. We have seen each other through some pretty hard times in life. From divorce, to losing a child, to singing in music contests together. Just a reminder to everyone to take the time to make those phone calls to the friends and loved ones in your life. Relationships are what is most important in life and you never know how long you are here on this earth. I just want her to know that she means the world to me even if we only talk once every so often she is in my heart all the time!!

Creative juices are flowing

For some reason this must be the time of year that I feel motivated again. I have started to invent a board game with the hopes of making it onto the American Inventor Show. Ha! That will be the day. Ya never know until you try right? I am also in the beginning stages of writing a very funny book about my massage therapy practice. Don't worry! All the names have been changed incase some of you are worried or wondering if you might be in it. haha! Yes! I do have that many funny stories after being in my practice for 2 years now. Stay tuned over the next few months and I will let you know if anything comes of it. I like to have alot of things going actually, it helps me feel like I always have something to look forward to. I have found over the years that if I only have one thing going on I tend to become more like a slug and unmotivated. Kind of weird thought huh?

Back to school

It's hard to believe that all the kids are pretty much headed back to school this coming monday. My youngest is a senior in high school this fall. I just can't believe it! Where did the summer go? and where did the time go? I have spent most of my entire summer painting the inside of my new home. This is my very first home. (other than the one I had 14 years ago for only 3 months right before I got divorced.) Ugh. So basically I have been renting a house or an apartment for over 20 years until this spring. I have added it up and averaged it out and to my surprise I have spent over 126,000 in rent money that was never to be seen again. I feel like it is just like flushing money down the toilet. But what is a person to do if you can only afford to rent? Ya just do what ya gotta do.

I learned alot during those years. I even lived in government housing for 8 of those years. Was a single parent for the past 14 years. It has been a long road from the days of turning my neighbors in for beating their kids and smelling them smoke pot through my cheap apartment walls. I could write a book and maybe I will someday. I remember picking my kids up in winter snowstorms from my parents house, when they watched my girls until late at night because I was waiting tables at some restaurant.

I never thought I would see this new time in my life. WOW! Now God has blessed me with a new husband and a few more kids (my step children) and this brand new 4000 square foot home that is like my huge pallet that I am ready to paint. I am on room number 7. I have even just finished two rooms with faux paux painting. Sooooooo I guess you could say I have been a bit distracted over the past 6 months with all the new changes. Does anyone else feel like that? Sometimes it is just all so overwhelming. But in a good way!!

Iowa State Fair

Alot of you know that I am from Iowa, and the Iowa State Fair is the second largest attraction next to Las Vegas. If you have never attended a fair, the Iowa State Fair is a must! One of my clients gave me free up close tickets to the Brad Paisley Concert last night. After Steve and I ate our way to the grandstand, (literally!) porkchop dinners, Margarita's, wonder bars, and a homemade salted nut roll and all we found our seats for the concert. I was stuffed! I am not that familiar with a whole lot of country artists but the show was great! Brad had two opening acts, Eric Church and The Wreckers. Eric was real good, but The Wreckers, quite honestly just didn't move me. The songwriting was blah and voices a little whiny. I felt like the brunette had a stronger voice and did great harmonies. Come to find out it was Michelle Branch. She used to do pop and is now part of a country duo. I guess time will tell how far they go with it. Brad had quite a show. He is an excellent performer and really kept the crowd going. To my surprise the entire band he used were all from Iowa! Imagine that! Fun, fun at the fair!
